the appalachian symphony band
The Appalachian Symphony Band is an auditioned ensemble open to all music and non-music majors, performing a variety of challenging repertoire and is conducted by Dr. Jason Gardner, Associate Director of Bands. The Appalachian Symphony Band shares three on-campus concerts per semester, typically with the Wind Ensemble, as well as a performance at the annual Northwest District Honor Band Clinic hosted at Appalachian State.
In 2024 the Appalachian Symphony Band was invited to perform for the NCMEA Conference in the Benton Convention Center, Winston-Salem, NC. This honor is reserved for the finest ensembles in the state and we were honored to represent Appalachian State!
Auditions for the Appalachian Symphony Band take place at the beginning of each semester. Students who are accepted into the Appalachian Symphony Band receive one hour of academic credit by enrolling in MUS 1101. The Appalachian Symphony Band rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm - 7:45 pm during the fall semester, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 pm - 1:45 pm in the spring semester.
