THE APPALACHIAN WIND ENSEMBLE

The Appalachian Wind Ensemble performs repertoire of the highest caliber. the personnel represents the finest instrumentalists at the Hayes School of Music. Conducted by Dr. John Stanley Ross, Director of Bands and frequently has guest conductors, including Dr. Gardner (Director of the Appalachian Symphony Band) and Graduate Conducting Students. The Appalachian Wind Ensemble has performed as a feature ensemble at the American Bandmasters Association National Convention, the Southern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association, the North Carolina Music Educators Association Convention, and at the American School Band Directors Association National Convention. Nationally prominent conductors and soloists perform with the Appalachian Wind Ensemble each semester. The Appalachian Wind Ensemble has been featured on numerous occasions for professional recording projects.

Auditions for the Appalachian Wind Ensemble take place at the beginning of each semester. Students who are accepted into the Appalachian Wind Ensemble receive one hour of academic credit by enrolling in MUS 1102. The ensemble rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm during both fall and spring semesters, and performs 2 on-campus concerts per semester, in addition to the Northwest District Honor Band Clinic in February at Appalachian State University.
